Dianna Shomaker

I enjoy the fragmented, impressionistic look that I achieve with torn paper and acrylic.  But then, I also enjoy building up a very textured abstract surface with all manner of found materials.  My paintings are multimedia.  They are constructed and textured, glazed, painted and drawn on and sometimes sanded between layers.

I believe this approach lends itself to creating a fresh image each time and ultimately it springs the occasional surprise.  To me, art is about inventing, about letting your inner voice come out when you least expect it.  My art is sometimes planned around a concept or an idea, but not always.  However it starts, my goal is to weave a little complexity and sparkle into the paintings to give me (and the viewer) satisfaction and stimulation.
